Official information on the Lotus Exige for the US

Lotus unveiled its US-bound Exige at the recent Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG). Among the critical stats:

  • The Exige is heavier than the Elise due to its hand laid fiber glass (the front and rear clamshells are different than the Elise’s), pushing its weight to 2020 pounds (versus 1930-1975 for the Elise, depending on how it’s equipped).
  • The Exige’s main advantage (over the Elise) is greater downforce at speeds above 100mph.
  • The Exige comes standard with the LSS wheels, painted black.
  • Black is the only interior color option. The Exige will use different seats than the Elise.
  • First US cars should arrive in January.
  • MSRP: $50,990
  • It’s pretty fairly priced, as it really IS nothing more than an Elise with the sport suspension and better downforce at high speeds. At lower speeds, the Elise’s lower weight will give it an advantage, though. If you look at the price of an Exige versus a comparably equipped Elise, you find that the Exige is demanding a $4070 premium, not bad considering you get different seats and more radical bodywork.

A ’240R’ supercharged version of the Exige will almost certainly be appearing as well. Most likely, the supercharger will be a dealer-installed accessory.

More info on 240R would be appreciated. I am considering ordering an Exige, and if I can upgrade to the supercharger, that would cement the deal.

There’s still no official word on a supercharger option for the US. There is at least one company (Ragnorak Racing) that is making bolt on supercharger kits for the Elise and Exige, so if you don’t mind an aftermarket solution, you’re set.
